Ringling Art Gallery Ready to Receive Glass

Planned as the next signature art gallery at FSU’s Ringling Museum of Art campus in Sarasota, the Kotler-Coville Glass Pavilion is a 5,500 SF addition to the Visitor’s Atrium. Construction began in June of 2016 and is moving along steadily with installation of the glass façade now underway. The two-story facility, which will house the museum’s glass art collection, includes an entry atrium, support spaces for the historic Asolo theater, a dance rehearsal studio and dressing rooms. The building’s form is largely dictated by the location of the existing Visitor’s Pavilion as well as an adjacent historic gatehouse entry structure. Inspiration for the project was derived from the interplay of air, water and sand, principle ingredients in the glass-making process. This inspiration is portrayed on the prominent eastern wall, helping to control and filter daylight entering the art gallery. The building is expected to open to visitors towards the end of the year.
